PASTOR'S MESSAGE

"THE MOVE THAT MADE THE DIFFERENCE"

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." John 8 v.36

John Thomas, the Welsh evangelist, once told the following story about Paul Morphy, who was a champion chess player. His friend had purchased a valuable painting. It was called "The Chess Player". The masterpiece represented Satan playing chess with a young man, the stake being the man's soul.

The game reached the stage where it was the young man's move; but he was checkmated. There was no move he would make that would not mean defeat for him. The strong feture of the painting was the look of awful despair on the man's face as he realised his soul was lost.

Morphy studied the painting for a while before calling for a chessboard and men. Placing them in exactly the same position as they were in the painting, he said, "I'll take the young man's place and make the move." He then made the move that set the young man free. (Morphy knew more about chess than the artist.)

This is really the story of life. Satan had every man and woman checkmated. There was no move we would make to save our souls from eternal death. Man lost the game of life. Darkness and despair hovered over the soul. Praise God, the Champion of life and deliverance came. He made the move to set the captives free. Who is He? His Name is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God. He was born in Bethlehem to the virgin girl called Mary. The Bible declares He was the sinless One and it is true. This is the person who made the greatest move of all time. He was crucified between two thieves outside the city walls of Jeusalem almost two thousand years ago. But that is not the end of the message!! He arose again after three days, and a few weeks later He returned to Heaven to represent His people before His Heavenly Father. One day He is coming back for them. That day is very near!!

Unlike the painting, the mission of Christ cost Him His life. His move was a costly move to Himself. He laid down His life that you and I might have life.

If you do not know the Lord as your Saviour, you can trust Him today. He has promised to forgive and deliver all those who come in repentance and simple faith to Him.
